So after running almost to the end of my last bit of Devlan Mud i needed to find an alternative to use, at Salute i picked up some Army Painter Washes and some Coat d'Arms super shader to try out
not wanting to ruin any painted figures and after some comparisons of the same effects i rounded up a triplet of useless bodies from my bits box, painted each one Khemri Brown as i find that always looked good after a Devlan Mud wash and tried each out to see if any were close !
so here we go with subjects A, B and C
First off, who was washed with what ?
Subject A was washed with Devlan Mud
Subject B was washed with Army Painter Strong Tone
Subject C was washed with Coat d'Arms Super Shader Dark Brown
one of the first things i noticed was how similair the Army Painter wash was to Devlan Mud, but hte Coat d'Arms was quite thick looking, looked a little like melted chocolate in the pot, but was quite thin and more ink like when i got some out
all 3 of the subjects dried at around the same time, A and B to a matt finish, but C has a glossy finish to him.
both A and B have no surface "pooling" on them, but C does unfortunately
looking at the pics above im sure you can see theres almost no difference between subjects A and B, whereas subject C has a definite glossy brown finish to him !
so it looks like the Army Painter Strong Tone is a good substitute for Devlan Mud, whereas the Coat d'Arms is more like a dip, now i can see this still being useful, but not for how i use the washes
ive also found whilst looking around that Coat d'Arms have a product called a "Super Wash" which claims to be a good replacement for the GW washes that were available before a change in their paint range, so ill be trying to pick one up and do a comparison to see whether it is or not, but for now it looks like Army Painter is winning so far (plus it comes in an 18ml bottle too for less the price of a GW Wash !!)

Bakemono-a-go-go !
well after doing bugger all painting last month i had a bit of a paint frenzy last night and got some Bakemono base coated ready for a wash tonight !
not really much more needed on these, ive also done a bit more work on the Healer and Shugenja for the Prefecture, plus started a few others too if you look at the first pic you can see them in the background

more Bushido !
agggh just typed out a nice long post with pics and everything, opened a new tab for some photobucket images and closed it !!!!!
well here we go again - take 2 !!
ive been working through the last few reelases from Bushido when my mate who im painting them for has asked if i can get the Bakemono done (hmm wonder if its anything to do with us starting to play Legend of the 5 Rings again !!)
so ive got 12 of the little buggers ready to go along with Tra Peng the hunter, who is probably one of my favourite Bushido minis so far
must say these little sods caused me no end of swearing and sticking my fingers to them and together ! but in the end i think ive got some interesting poses from them, they are very characterful minis and to be fair are quite easy and enjoyable to paint. im going to try to match the scheme i did hte original 6 from the Savage Wave starter a few months ago
and heres the Oni just for "completeness" !!
so once those are done ill of done 20 Bakemono altogether - 6 original + 12 "normal" ones + Tra Peng + Wu Zang Father of Shadows, who i hope i can do the glowy effect seen here on the GCT official model, although i cant help thinking he looks a bit too Yoda-like !
aaaagh and after reposting all that ive just seen the draft saved of my original post !!!!!!!

RELICS HAS ARRIVED !!!
well been waiting for these a few months now, i jumped in on their kickstarter and went for Britanan and Nuem and was pleasantly surprised to have this nice package when i got home !!
some very nice detail on the models, the top resin casts are very "solid" almost like plastic rather than resin ive usally worked with, you get lots of extra bits too so a lot of variety when assembling them
cant wait to get started on these !

Dystopian Wars Prussians
next up are some Dystopian Wars Prussians im working on for a friend of mine
very pleased with these, and its the first time ive ever painted something this scale since the mid 90's when i used to play Epic !! they were a very nice change to paint, so much so ive almost finished the full naval starter, im also working on some Covenant of Antarctica but am struggling with the colour scheme on those !
